Elderly motorcyclist transported to hospital following collision

Many people in Missouri may have stereotypical ideas of the sort of people who ride motorcycles. In reality, motorcyclists include adults of all ages, both male and female. Furthermore, one thing that all motorcyclists have in common regardless of external factors is their vulnerability to injury in a collision with another vehicle.

A collision last Wednesday morning sent a 66-year-old female motorcyclist to a hospital in Columbia, Missouri, via airlift. The current status of her injury is not known, but at the time of the accident, authorities reported that her injuries were serious. No information is available about the condition of the driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash.

Reports indicate that the motorcyclist rear-ended another vehicle, and the force of the collision ejected her from her motorcycle. Of note, the other vehicle involved in the collision reportedly belongs to the Missouri Department of Transportation. For this reason, patrol reconstructionists received an assignment to conduct additional analysis of the crash.

The accident occurred in the eastbound lanes of U.S. Highway 54 near the interchange of Route HH. Authorities closed each of the eastbound lanes for approximately one hour following the collision.

Authorities have not commented either way about factors such as drugs, alcohol or speed that may have played a part in the accident. Regardless of the reason for such an accident, however, all motorcyclists are similarly at risk every time they take to the road for a ride. After an accident, an injured motorcyclist may be able to recover compensation. A conversation with an attorney can illuminate the applicable legal options.
