State sees spike in accident fatalities

As the holiday season is now in full swing, residents all across Missouri may well find themselves concerned about their safety and the safety of their loved ones as they travel to and from holiday events. Whether en route to a local event or on the road to spend multiple days with family for larger gatherings, people should be able to trust that everyone will arrive at their intended destinations safely and soundly. Sadly, that does not always happen.

Being involved in an accident at any time of year can be an upsetting experience for people but when crashes occur at times that are meant to be extra special, the pain people feel can be very deep. This pain is actually something that too many people in Missouri have had to face recently.

According to ABC 17 News, the state saw a significant rise in the number of people killed in motor vehicle accidents this November. By the middle part of the month alone, 15 fatal wrecks had occurred across the state and eight of those were in the center part of the state. It is not known exactly how many people died in each crash. Records from one troop of the Missouri State Highway Patrol indicate that the number of vehicular fatalities this year is 50-percent higher than last year.

Many accidents are called secondary crashes because they happen after a first wreck has taken place. An example of this is when two vehicles collide and another vehicle ends up hitting one of them for some reason.
