Limo company operator arrested following fatal crash

Fatal motor vehicle accidents in Missouri rip families apart and change the lives of survivors forever. While nothing can bring back a lost loved one, families may derive some comfort from seeing a party whose negligence contributed to the crash brought to justice.

Following a limousine crash near Albany, New York last weekend that killed 20 people, including 17 passengers, two pedestrians and the driver of the vehicle, law enforcement arrested the operator of the limo company on Wednesday on a charge of criminally negligent homicide, which carries a maximum possible sentence of four years in prison.

The owner of the limo company is the father of the man arrested on Wednesday. At the time of the accident, the owner of the company was in Pakistan. Therefore, the authorities determined that the sole responsibility for the vehicle being on the road last week rests with the owner's son.

According to officials from the state Transportation Department, the vehicle involved in the crash had failed two inspections this year, one in March and one in September. The state affixed a sticker taking the vehicle out of service following the most recent failed inspection just last month. In addition, law enforcement had cited the driver of the limousine for operating the same vehicle without a proper license in late August of this year.

Authorities released the limo company operator on $150,000 bail after he pleaded not guilty to blameworthy conduct that contributed to the worst motor vehicle accident the nation has seen in nine years.

The loved ones of those killed in motor vehicle accidents caused by the behavior of others deserve to see justice done. Surviving family members may find it helpful to consult an attorney.
