Families sue after drunk driver kills two

Missouri residents who lose their loved ones at the hands of drunk drivers deserve to have the ability to seek compensation and justice. These horrific and completely preventable incidents leave too many people grieving every year across the state and the nation. Continual vigilance is needed to convince more drivers to not drink and drive.

Yet another example of how quickly lives can be changed as well as lost can be seen in the case of a crash that happened in early June of 2016. A woman in her sixties who was from Hawaii and still had her pickup truck licensed in that state actually worked at a winery in Missouri. While coming home from work late one night, she is said to have crashed directly into the front of another vehicle which carried three people including two minors.

A 12-year-old boy and a 39-year-old man both died at the scene of the crash. The driver of the car was 17 years old at the time and was found unresponsive but breathing by first responders and later transported to a hospital. Since then, the families of the two people who died have filed civil lawsuits seeking damages for these unnecessary fatalities. These suits have been filed against both the driver and the winery. A criminal case has resulted in the drunk driver being sentenced to 15 years in prison as part of a plea deal which reduced her total time in prison by allowing multiple sentences to be served at the same time.

After enduring the death of a family member at the hands of a negligent driver, Missouri residents might want to talk to a lawyer to learn how they may seek compensation.
