The disadvantages and weaknesses of motorcycles

Missouri motorcyclists understand that riding their motorcycle will always come with certain physical risks. However, there are some things that can make a motorcyclist more open to danger. These weaknesses should always be monitored and avoided when possible.

Quora lists some disadvantages to motorcycles, which applies both to new motorcyclists deciding to make the investment and old riders alike. Several of the things mentioned include:

  • Capacity
  • Utility
  • Weather
  • Clothing

Drivers will only be able to take one passenger at a time unless they have a sidecar. They will not be able to take heavy loads with them either, like furniture or appliances. Doing so may upset the balance of the motorcycle, resulting in crashes. Additionally, motorcyclists need to pay keen attention to the weather they drive in and the clothing they wear. Dressing inappropriately can result in severe injury if a motorcyclist gets into an accident or falls off their bike. Ignoring weather warnings can also be dangerous. Motorcycles fare much worse in extreme weather conditions than cars.

Cycleworld also brings up the issue of dangerous blind spots. Not the blind spot of the motorcyclist, but the blind spots of the drivers around them. Due to their small size and the lack of protection around them, drivers often have difficulty seeing motorcycles. It is not uncommon for vehicles to merge into a motorcyclist because they did not see them when trying to change lanes. Unfortunately, it's often up to the motorcyclist to pay attention to the cars around them in order to avoid the hazards of these spots.

All motorcyclists should be aware of these issues before riding. While there are many upsides to motorcycles as well, the weaknesses should be accommodated rather than ignored.
